Nut processing (≥ 5 t)

Complete supplier for nut processing (large amounts).

We are your contact for nut processing of large quantities.

Our machines for walnut harvesting and processing efficiently cover each process step in large-scale harvesting. Thanks to our innovative nut processing technologies, nut production is optimised and streamlined.

Starting with harvesting, transporting, washing, dividing, sorting and drying and moving on to calibrating and cracking the walnuts – we offer original solutions for all aspects of walnut refinement.

Walnut harvesting made easy

Harvesting

The fruit picking machines manufactured by Feucht Obsttechnik are suitable for harvesting walnuts in large quantities from nut plantations.

These mechanise and streamline the walnut harvest and thus ensure an efficient procedure. Thus, a clear increase in productivity, with a simultaneous increase in profitability, can be achieved.

HARVESTING NUTS
Transporting nuts with transport belts

Transporting

The conveyor systems are designed for the transport of nuts. The transport belts can transport nuts in different steps of the production process, including harvesting, before or after washing or sorting.

The conveyor belts ensure high productivity and work safety thanks to automation and minimisation of the manual handling of the walnuts.

TRANSPORTING NUTS
For clean nuts free of small branches, earth, leaves and raw shells

Washing and removing raw shells

After harvesting the walnuts must be washed free of raw shells, leaves, branches, and similar items with the help of nut washing machines. The walnuts pass through a rotary drum with water jets for efficient cleaning.

We offer various models according to the size of your fields and the amount of your walnut harvest.

WASHING NUTS
Separating full-fledged nuts and shells

Dividing and separating

During dividing and separating, the nut cores are separated from the outer shells or empty nuts are separated from the full-fledged nuts using a blower.

Depending on the size of the nut plantation and the walnut harvest, we offer various blowers for dividing and separating.

SEPARATING NUTS
Sorting nuts according to quality

Sorting

Selection or sorting tables can be used to separate broken or wormy nuts from high-quality nuts. In addition, the shells of the nut cores can be divided and nut halves as well as nuts not cracked can be sorted out.

Our sorting belts are variably adjustable and thus ensure good work conditions with the best possible harvest yield.

Storage of nuts in a dryer

Drying

The drying of nuts is an important step in the process of walnut refinement. Quick drying prevents the nut cores from becoming mouldy or turning black.

The nuts should be dried in a warm, dry air stream. The optimum drying time depends on the size and degree of moisture of the walnut. For drying nuts, we offer special heating devices as well as multi-stage drying storage.

DRYING NUTS
Measuring the degree of moisture of the nuts

Measuring moisture

The ideal length of the drying process is determined using the degree of moisture of the nuts. Finished dried nuts should in general have a residual moisture of approx. 6 – 12 %.

The moisture of the nuts is determined with the help of moisture meters. These measure the residual moisture of the nut core and are thus significant for the remaining drying time.

Sorting nuts according to size

Calibration

During calibration, the dried nuts are sorted according to size. For this, the nuts pass through a rotating drum or a round hole sieve. The calibration size and grading can be adjusted individually.

A calibration contributes to a good cracking result, that is, as many fully cracked nuts as possible.

Separate nuts from the shell

Cracking

With professional walnut cracking machines, the nut core is separated from the shell. As a supplement to this, post-cracking machines and blowers can be used for shell removal.

In this way a significant reduction of rework in nut processing can be achieved. Through these processes, between 40% and 80% half cores can be achieved.
